The next Kalymnos climbing festival (Sept 28-30, 2012) was announced in a municipal press conference last week. For the next three years starting in 2012, in collaboration with local authorities The North Face will be in charge of an annual climbing festival taking place in the last week of September. The 2012 Kalymnos climbing festival is planned for September 28, 29 & 30. A team from The North Face came to Kalymnos earlier this month (pictured left) to scope out the island and to shoot photos and footage for promotional materials; the team included North Face athletes Simone Moro (a Kalymnos regular), James Pearson, brothers Iker and Eneko Pou, and Sponsorship Manager Tiziana Di Gioia, among others. In fact some of the team bolted about 10 new routes at sector Big Shadow. These routes are not ready to be climbed yet, but when they are we will include them in our ‘new route updates’ list.

According to Simone Moro an estimated 700-800 climbers will participate in the next Kalymnos climbing festival. The plan is to repeat the event on the same (or similar) dates every year for the next three years.
