    Hi,

My wife and I are traveling to Kalymnos to climb for the month of June. Staying in Armeos appears to create a shorter approach to the climbing. Does anyone have recommendations for or against staying in Armeos instead of Massouri? Thanks for the advice. I am so excited for our trip I can hardly stand it!

    Hi there Dan,

Armeos and Masouri are basically one and the same. Technically they are two separate villages, BUT in practice Armeos is a short extension of Masouri to the north. As neither is a giant village, you can walk to most main crags from both Armeos and Masouri. To give you an idea, the length of Masouri can be walked in about 10-15 minutes (add another 2-3 minutes to walk through Armeos). A factor which may or may not influence your decision is that Masouri features more amenities (i.e. restaurants, mini markets and more hotels / rental units) whereas Armeos consists only of houses, a couple of small hotels and some rentals; but, again, since this is an overall small area you can just walk from one end of the village to the other in no time.

If you have the new guidebook go to page 193, bottom photo. See where the path to the crags begins? That’s where Masouri ends and Armeos starts – you can’t tell them apart, and they are both near the cliffs.

    I hope I didn’t add to your confusion! :)

Hi Dan, I have noticed you on facebook but don’t seem to be able to comment at the moment. We have been to Kalymnos many times and now own a small apartment here. There are many many apartments over here most are cheap and cheerful but some are better than others. It all depends on what you want to spend. Even the most basic are usually OK with shower room and a 2 ring electric for cooking. One of our favourite apartment blocks is at Lambrinos their e-mail is lambrinosstudios@gmail.com also we have heard of one at Myrties http://www.vasilisstudios.gr they also hire scooters. The adverts in the climbing guide are a good starting point. We have also heard that even if you have booked and you do not like it you can always find something else. One last thing I have just been told that the Acropolis Hotel (www.acropolishotel.gr) is right in the middle of Masouri and is very nice. Hope this helps, Ruth
