    Hello Aris,

    what is, according to you, the best beaches in Kalymnos?

    – I know the small one near the Philoxenia in Armeos, but it’s a bit wavy and pebbled and small.

    – I know the one of Kantouni, which is nice and sandy, but with a lot of people and houses.

    – I know the long one in Massouri, but it’s a bit crowdy and urban as well…

    – I know Arginonda and Emporios-St George, but never too the time to swim in these 2 ones.

    Any input about some beaches, especially the nicest and most quiet ones… : wavy or calm water, accessible by bike or bus, busy or quiet, nudist or not? Palionisos? Sikati Bay? Skalia? Anywhere else, even accessible only by car (we can rent one for a day in the week)?

    Thanks for your answer. I guess this will be my last question for the day (5 or 6 in a row…).

    Thank you for the web site, thank you for the topo, thank you for developing Kalymnos climbing. This will be my 4th trip here (with some small detour by Patmos or Rhodos) in late September, and I can’t wait to be there!

    You must try the Pirate beach which is really called Kalamies beach just before Emporios down a steep concrete road. About half km before the village. Great bars and friendly staff.

    Then there is Palionisos, two new tavernas to complement the original one, but these two are right on the beach, either side of the bay. Great swimming.

    If you are looking for golden sands then forget it on the west coast, but we love the shingle and pebbles.

    Sandy beach is at Vlyhadia, a nice village with a good bar called Paradise on the left as you get there. Vlyhadia is a right turn just before you get to Pothia and then over the mountain road. There is a bus from Pothia but by scooter is more exciting!

    Vathy has a good swimming area at the end of the pier with a deep water traverse starting next to it.

    If you get a boat then there are any number of secret beaches. You can talk to the supermarked guy at “Goofy” supermarket opposite Fatolitis bar. He will take you in his boat anywhere you ask him to. He’s a very friendly guy and very knowledgable. We had a great day out with him.

    Thank you for your kind words Thomas. I think Ruth & Carl covered all bases above, but may I add to the list the beaches of Telendos, the best (in my opinion) being the nudist beach “Paradise” which is accessible by footpath (about 15min) to the right of the main dock. It’s small but the water is always calm and nice color.

    Good answers, Ruth. And you also answer one of my question to Aris : is there a bus between Pothia and Vlyhadia… ;)

    Fatolitis bar.. is it the one in Massouri, with the small Dad, the hard working elder daughter, and the younger daughter always looking at her finger nails???
