    Hello,

a friend and I would like to come to Kalmynos in early november. We’d prefer to fly either to Athens or Rhodes and then take a ferry to Kalymnos.

I’ve spent some time trying to find out the ferry timetables for november, but I wasn’t able to find any ferry at all (I looked up ferries.gr and openseas.gr of course). There surely are some ferries in november, aren’t there? If so, could you give me a hint how to find timetables?

    Thanks

    Philipp

    Hi Philipp,

I know for sure the ferries from Athens to Kalymnos continue year-round approximately 3-4 times per week. So does the Rhodes – Kalymnos ferry, although I don’t know how often per week. I looked up the timetables also, but they are only available through October 31st. That’s the main problem, that timetables become available only about 1 month before.

I emailed both the Athens – Kalymnos and the Rhodes – Kalymnos ferry asking them about November, and if I get a reply I will post it here. They have been good about replying in the past. The problem is that I’ll be offline for a few days (Monday to Friday) and won’t have an answer until then, so perhaps you’d like to email them as well? The websites are:

    Athens – Kalymnos (‘Diagoras’ ferry)

    http://www.bluestarferries.gr/site/content.asp?sel=616&loc=2&query=

Rhodes – Kalymnos (‘Dodekanisos express’ and ‘Dodekanisos pride’ ferries)

    http://www.12ne.gr/en/

There is an English version on both sites.

We always take the ferry from Athens to Kalymnos in winter and there’s never been a problem, severe weather is uncommon.

I hope this helps, feel free to post more questions if you have them!

    Hello Katie,

    this is really helpful, thanks!

The main problem is: I’m too stupid to read the information on this website, I just found that you state (in bold letters even ;) ):

Please note that ferry timetables change every month and they become available only at the beginning of each month.

I’m in no hurry, so I’ll wait until you post the replies of the ferry companies.

    Many thanks

    Hi Philipp & Marlens,

Coming back to the ferry issue, both companies replied and I quote their answers here. For the Rhodes – Kalymnos ferry the answer was “Trips for November will be available from 10th of October”. The Athens – Kalymnos ferry replied “Hopefully we shall open our plans in the first week of October” (I’m not sure how to interpret this answer!)

So the point is that you have to wait until October to plan the ferries…I’m sorry, I know this doesn’t help much, but rest assured that ferries do operate in November.

Hi there, I understand the timetables are not yet available till first weeks of October, but do you know more or less till what time you have ferries going from Kos to Kalymnos on a Saturday? I arrive in Kos at 1930, so I was wondering if I am able to catch a boat to sleep in Kalymnos already.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi D,

The Kos to Kalymnos ferry is a local commuter ferry so there are several crossings every day of the week. The timetable for October lists the last ferry to Kalymnos on Saturdays at 20.20, and it usually doesn’t change much in November (there is always an evening ferry to accommodate passengers from the later flights).

    http://www.openseas.gr/OPENSEAS/searchOutwardRoute.do?lang=en&from=MAS&to=KAL&date=29%2F10%2F2011&Submit.x=20&Submit.y=7

This site is fairly reliable, but if you want to confirm the timetable before your trip you can also call the Kos port authority and double-check. There’s an automated menu in English (I think you press 9) where you can select the day of the week and get the timetable. The number is 0030-22420-26594.

    Hope it helps,

    Katie
