SCOOTERS: NOISE & AIR POLLUTION

I have just returned from a great trip to Kalymnos. One issue of concern to me is the noise and air pollution associated with scooters – they really detract from the peaceful ambiance of Kalymnos. Are the Scooter Hire companies prepared to tackle this issue? Electric scooters are one possibility but may be a hazard to pedestrians & other road users because they are too quiet! Obviously, we don’t want sccoters users to switch too cars as this would jam up the already restricted road/parking system.

I agree, Kalymnos is paradise but this issue should be addressed.

I also heard it from the locals, they love climbers, but the one thing not appreciated about the influx of visitors is the scooter traffic, noise and pollution.

Electric bikes? Do people really need to rent scooters to drive from Massouri to the Odyssey parking? I was pretty shocked at this.

Hoping to hear more thoughts to get a discussion going, especially from those living and working in Kalymnos.

I agree 100%, but it seems you haven’t been to the other side of the island…

On the right side of Pothia there is the place where every night they make a huge fire and burn the garbage, all the things people throw away in their trash from plastic bottles to chemicals. We passed through that road with a car. An entire hill side smells burnt plastic and shit. We couldn’t stand the air and meantime there were normally goats on that hill and possibly many other living things. Not to mention that all this ends up in the sea…

This is a shame for kalymnos.
