    Hey,

    i am going to Kalymnos in late March/ealy April and i want to be in shape. What do you recommend for training?

    I looked through the guidebook and general information about Kalymnos and it seems, that the routes are pretty long, but wih good rests. In a gym you usally do not have resting points, so i don´t think you can compare it to Kalymnos, right?

    Are the metres between the resting points are very hard, so you have to train maximum power like for bouldering or are they more endurance based, so you have to climb 10 hard metres without a good shaking point, but then comes a good kneebar ore something and you can rest for some time!?

    I am looking to onsight some 7cs and do some redpoints about 8a.

    I would recommend eating lots of feta and climbing your favorite overhanging gym route back to back until you pop off.

    Slightly more seriously (although feta is nice), I’d concentrate mainly on power-endurance training. Long routes like Priapos DO have many rests but power endurance is probably the key requirement on many of the routes at Kaly. However, do not ignore your power/bouldering training… other routes such as Angelica have little in the way of rests AND then require a powerful bouldery sequence at the very end! Work hard on these things over the Winter and you’ll have a great time next Spring.

    This may be interessting for some of you. I found a serie, called “Robbie´s Beast Building Sessions”, where climber Robbie Phillips gives some training advice for climbing. He also writes about how he prepared himself for his 6-week Kalymnos trip.
