hi there, a friend and i are heading to Kalymnos in november, and were considering the possibility of a new route, in memory of an amazing friend (also a climber) who has recently passed.

we were wondering about the possibility of purchasing bolts, and whether there’s a possibility to rent (or borrow) a drill?

any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance!

Hi Aris,

I, personally, have very little experience, but my partner has a lot of experience with opening new routes. He’s been climbing for 20+ years, and developing routes for much of that, in various locations in Canada.

I know he has looked at the guidebook extensively, and is thinking perhaps an option on Telendos, but we won’t know for sure until we arrive and have had a chance to really look around.

I just realized I really didn’t answer your questions very thoroughly and wanted to add that I’m happy to provide any info to any questions you have regarding my partner’s experience (please let me know!). He isn’t really much of a forum user so I’d have to relay the info back and forth. Please let me know your email address and any specifics you’d like, and I’ll definitely get back to you quickly!

We will be arriving in Kalymnos on Nov. 16, and leaving early Dec. 3, so we will have some time to accomplish this, and to have a look around on both Kalymnos and Telendos (he thinks Telendos might be a better option given it’s less developed).

The route would be in memory of the friend I was originally supposed to be going on this trip with, who unexpectedly passed away a couple weeks ago. We were thinking of calling the route “Anna Escalada” http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/anna-smith-canmore-climber-dies-indian-himalaya-1.3790465
