Is Southwest Safe? Southwest Airlines has a good safety record and is generally considered to be a safe airline. It has a 7/7 safety rating from AirlineRatings.com, which is the highest possible rating. However, no airline is completely safe. In 2018, Southwest had a fatal accident when one of its planes made an emergency landing in Philadelphia. This was the first fatal accident for Southwest in over 10 years.
