Access to palace/ baby house

Hey,

We attempted to go to palace sector baby house 2 weeks ago and the second gate was locked – has anyone else had issues with access?

We went in there a few days ago (March 2019). We explored all over. The fence and gate are locked and impassable. Is there an access issue here? You can get to the cliff with the arch, but not Baby House. Please advise, as I’d like to go back there to finish a project.

The access is a little to the left of the locked gate. Just hunt around a bit to the left of the locked gate and you’ll find another gate amongst the bushes.

Dranoel — we found this hidden gate. It leads to a pasture that is very well fenced and blocks access to the cliff. Essentially, there is an impenetrable fence line from the cliff all the way down to the shepherd’s barn, with one access point which is locked. There is a clear way that people have been climbing over the fence.

I returned yesterday and found the outer gate newly wrapped in wire, and the inner gate enforced with extra stuff. To me, it looks like somebody clearly wants to block passage.

Perhaps a local climber should contact the land owner and see what’s up? While not the best area on the island, there *are* some good routes, and some of the routes are certainly better than some of the new additions at other crags.

Was back there last week and you’re right, the hidden gate is now very well secured by lots of wire, so clearly the intention is to prevent that gate from being opened. The extra security has been added in the last month. We found an alternate means of access from the road below the crag, to the right of the big white house that works pretty well. So instead of turning up the hill to park, you continue on and park before the white house and then make your way up outside the boundary fence of the white house.

Hi there,

To the right of the second gate is a fence, which is actually a gate( Kaly style)! It really hard to see but there is a cairn on the other side of the fence. Just lift the fence back then reattached the wire locking thingymajig….. It does look like there is no access at first. Nice route at Place shame about the spacey bolting…….
