Bolt missing from Grim (Big Shadow)

There is a missing bolt (sheered off) down low on Grim at Big Shadow.

As an aside, all of the bolts we saw at Big Shadow were sketchy and in need of replacement. (As of 4/27/2016)

Thanks for the heads up, Jimbo.

The bolts at Big Shadow are increasingly worse, to the point where all routes need to be re-bolted indeed. Many of those bolts are by the now-defunct Greek manufacturer Rockland, whose materials proved to be downright problematic.

Big Shadow has been on the list of sectors to be re-bolted; however, the recent re-bolting program only covered 300 routes and other, more popular sectors routinely visited by thousands of climbers had to be prioritized. We are hoping to re-bolt Big Shadow in the near future, either voluntarily or within the context of an official maintenance program.

We will advise climbers not to climb at Big Shadow until further notice.

Good to hear. We thought the harder routes were quite good, and have the rare property of being in the shade in the afternoon. When we visited, there were at least two other parties there…the message isn’t quite getting out about the bad bolts.

Are there any news regarding the rebolting of sector Big Shadow please? I haven´t found any new information in Kalymnos Climbing Guidebook 2019 editon neither in the Vertical App. As I´m planning to come (again) to Kalymnos next July I´m looking for further(new) afternoon-shadowy routes…

actually we have not rebolted sector Big Shadow yet.

We will publish the info when we will find the time and rebolt it.
