Getting around on Kalymnos by car

Hi Climbers,

I’m going to Kalymnos for the first time this August, with a friend. Since she has had bad experiences with scooters, she would prefer to rent a car. Does anybody know about getting around on Kaly by car? Is it a problem with parking (at crags and in the city)? Other issues (very bad streets etc.)?

We would be very greatful for sharing your experiences with us.

I had to rent a car instead of scooters last october in a very crowded period of time.

It was doable and it did not add too much stress.

Sure, you need to keep an eye for parking at hotels.

I was going to ask the same question. Is there any problem pasrking at any of the crags or are they generally OK?

We just returned, being there for 2 weeks, renting a car. It was no problem at all, acutally we were glad to have a car (leaving stuff in the trunk, being faster, more secure, air con…). Sometimes you have to search along the street for a parking space, sometimes the road rim is to high to park, but we always found a solution by parking a couple of meter (and not kilometers) further down or up. Also in Massouri you just park wherever there’s space. But ok, that was during summertime, not much climbers, maybe in autumn it’s harder…

Which crags did you go to? We were thinking of checking out some in the north (secret garden, the beach etc).

We’ve been at secret garden twice, but not at the beach. Symplegades, summertime, odyssey, grande grotta, iannis, ourania, je t’aime, irox, lambda (both telendos).
