Those of you visiting Kalymnos that enjoy all the cats, I would like you to consider supporting the Kalymnos Cat Project – https://www.kalymnoscatproject.com. While a lot of the cats get fed by locals (and tourists), they don’t all get looked after and very few get sterilized. The Cat project’s main focus, among others, is to sterilize the feral cats to keep their population at a relatively healthy level. 1 fertile female and her mate can produce over 2000 cats in just 4 years! I have recently volunteered with Leslie who runs the project with tireless devotion and she has organized the sterilization of over 1200 cats on Kalymnos so far. Sterilizations cost roughly between 45Euros and 75Euros, not to mention other medical costs for sick and injured cats as well as cages, transport etc. If you love animals and especially cats please go to the website and consider donating money and/or your time to the project.
Thanks!
