Hercules Sector – Palionissos.
Bolted winter 2019/20
Its clearly visible from the beach as the orange wall high up, just below the ridge above Prophetis Andreas.
6 new routes bolted last year by Mike Reed + Rory Gregory.
There is scope for a few more.
Easily possible to combine it with a mornings climbing in the shade at P. Andreas – hop over the ridge and climb in the afternoon shade at Hercules. Pretty much guaranteed to have it to yourself
Names are all taken from the ‘Labours of Hercules’ from Ancient Greek History.
2 approaches are possible. Names are on the rock.
1) Approach from the road end at Palionissos and directly walk up the hill, roughly on a broad ridge, directly to the base of the obvious orange crag. 40 mins. Recommended as its a bit safer and easier than 2.
2) Approach from Prophitis Andreas – scramble up onto the ridge, walk along for a short while, turn left down the hill carefully, toward Palionissos village, following cairns. This brings you to the top of the crag after 5 or 10 mins, take care here. A gully continues down to an open area and a big tree, then a better goat path goes around to the front of the crag. About 30 mins total from Andreas.
