Did you ever wonder
…about the origin of the huge walls in the climbing sector Kastri?
…about the age of the fortress walls opposite of sector Dodoni and what is behind them?
…about the nature of the strange buildings on the southern promontory of Telendos that you can easily see while having dinner on a terasse in massouri?
…about the function of the ruins left of the main road shortly after Chora, that are illuminated in the night, when you drive from the port to Massouri?
I bought a book in the archeological museum in Pothia that answers this (and many more) questions:
Kalymnos: History-Archaeology-Culture by Michalis Koutellas
This book (bilingual greek/english) deals with different aspects of our island, but the main focus is on archaeology. No wonder, the author is sort of the first archaeologist of Kalymnos. The 82 pages are rich with images, maps and information about the numerous findings on Kalymnos and the history behind them (inkluding some very interesting reconstruction sketches. The book is not brandnew (printed in the year 2006), but this kind of information does not become outdated too soon. The price of the colorful book is 3€.
My recommendation: Go there! Buy the book! (as long as stock lasts)
By the way: The museum itself is also absolutely worth a visit. Presently, the opening hours are Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 to 15:00
