rope length

Hi, is a 60m rope long enough for climbing in kalymnos or am I better getting a 70m or 80 m rope. cheers

70 meters would be better, since there are quite a lot nice routes longer than 30 meters on the island. 80 meters would be still further on the safe side…

a group of us are heading to Kaly in Oct – never been before – is there anything out of the ordinary that you’d recommend bringing …. and would you suggest a helmet… I usually climb without..

Hi Gemma,

good choice to come to Kalymnos! Kalymnos is special, because routes are normally set up in a very safe way. This means: Plenty of solid and well installed bolt, you will not need any mobile fixpoints like friends or thelike. I normally bring Quickdraws (16), a rope (70 meters), my shoes, a harness, 2 karabiners and a helmet to the crags on the island.

And yes, the helmet is important…

– When unluckily falling from lead climbing to make sure your head does not hit the wall to hard.

– Because you never can besure about what comes down from the top. Sometimes its just goats above you causing stones to fall into the routes.

When in October will you be on the island? Maybe we can plan some joint climbing?

Hi,

for the most routes in the 2010 climb book a 70m rope is enough.

For several new routes (from the addition to the 2010 climb book) and some old routes you need an 80m rope.

I usually wear a helmet but many don´t. You have to decide on your own.

I bring 22 QDs in different lenghts to be on the safe side.
