Hey Kalymnos folks. I was in Kalymnos for my first time 2 years ago, and had a great time. Despite the pandemic, I’m going to try to go back this late November for a bit, after trying out Leonidio beforehand. I’d also be looking to share accommodations/transportation with relaxed, vaccinated folks who are into the same kind of climbing grades/ambitions as me.
Last time, I stayed up in Panormos (a block or so from the grocery store), and rented a crappy little car. Both of those were good decisions and worked out well! But I’d be ok staying closer to Mirties this time as well. I prefer affordable/functional apartments over luxury.
Not looking to send crazy hard routes; moderates up to about 6c, maybe into the 7 range, but I can belay you on whatever. Last time I was there, I made it up a few 7a’s without issue and one 7a+ I think. I also had a pretty bad elbow injury at the time, so maybe I could get up more challenging stuff this time around.
I’m a longtime sport climber, a safe, helmet-wearing nerd, and conscientious about the rock/gear/other climbers at the crags. I’ll be bringing draws & a 70m rope.
Also, any seasoned Kalymnos climbers know how the weather is typically that late in the year (late November into December)? I just remember last time I went (late October), I still found it pretty warm, and too busy for my liking. I’m ok with potential rainy days this time around, if it means it’ll be quieter and cooler out, overall. If it’s potentially way too rainy that late in the year (or too difficult to sort out the ferries in the first or second week of December), then I might consider going to Geyikbayiri instead.
