Status of Bolting at Rocklands

Dear all,

Planning for a new trip towards the lovely climbing Island, the sector Rocklands caught my eye in the digital guidebook. I have been there years ago and enjoyed some of the climbs and left a project. In the meantime, I have heard some stories about the bolting requiring an overhaul in this sector.

Does someone know the actual status of the bolting (i.e. bolt condition) in the Rocklands Sector?

I spent a couple of days climbing there about a month ago and I thought the state of the bolts was OK. I can’t comment on the manufacture of the bolts themselves since I haven’t seen bolts by that manufacturer anywhere else, and that may be the main point of concern, rather than the current state of the bolts.

It’s a nice spot, with a scenic approach hike and the routes are good, with scope for more route development. Hopefully it gets a rebolt with marine environment gear in the future.

One point on the access, the handline is absolutely rotten, and I wouldn’t touch it, so we ab’d in and climbed out.

It’s entirely subjective, but if I had a project there I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
