    Hi there all!

i am interested in getting to Kalymnos by ferry from Pireus.

Since its my first time on the island, i would like to have your recommendations regarding the use of campervan on Kalymnos.

Thank you for all info available.

    Thanks

on kalymnos, you park your van, and after you rent a studio for cooking and sleeping!

It is the right attitude to be accepted by the inhabitants of the island, who do not see parasites in us, because they benefit from our presence! Vans with fire around, and dogs also … such like everywhere in spain … not here please!

Thank you Bruno for your reply.

To be honest, I am surprised by your recommendations..!!

I feel that you have not good experience staying in your campervan on Kalymnos.

I just want to sleep in nature, walk in nature, climb on nature, swim in nature…and not to be the parasite of anybody..

Ok then, i got the picture…

    thanks

“I just want to sleep in nature, walk in nature, climb on nature, swim in nature…and not to be the parasite of anybody..”

from a studio rented in skalia (for exemple) you can make the same!

Don’t miss the “number one” reason of the climber’s camper van fans … the mingy attitude (I use but I do not pay anything everywhere)

On this island the only reason for which the climbers are well accepted … it is that they return a lot of money to the shops (studios, hotels, restaurants, bars) … if a lot of climbers want to live at least … i think it is finished of this compromise(

people only see the trouble of the climbers … ans no the benefits)!

Thank you for your insiders info.

I believe that you have experienced this, right?

On the other hand, it is someone’s choice to pay 60,000EURO for getting this “MINGY” attitude, as you described it.

Nevertheless, thank you for your “CAMPER-Vans NOT Welcome” notice.

If my understanding is wrong, please comment.

actually, the balance between acceptation and repulse of the climbers is thin on kaly !!! mainly with shepherds … there are a lot of problems!

To have the support of a lot of kalylnians, the only mean is to use accommodations!

Perhaps you don’t understand … that camper van attitude is not the best to be accepted and welcomed (and not only on kalymnos i think)!

I see that you have traveled a lot worldwide.

Your input to officials, local admins and people like me are valuable.

    So,

    >If i “pay” my visit to KALY via bars, restaurants, local mini markets, tariffs to museums and local sights,

    >can i be a legitimate visitor of Kalymnos, having my camper-van on board.?

During the visit, climbing or not is a question of time, mood and other factors, NOT affecting this visit.

    Thank you

I spend 6 months a year on Kalymnos. I have see very few campervans. The locals like tourists however they expect them to rent acAccomodation. I think you leave yourself open to problems if you sleep in your camper van. The island doesn’t have the sort of facilities you might need staying in your van. Because the economy is so bad in Greece And on Kalymnos I would try to find paid accommodation particularly as it is very cheap per night. Do visit you will enjoy the locals however be prepared to contribute. For the record I am not Greek. Good luck.

Sigh. Patrick Edlinger would be ashamed of US.

People travelling around the world in their vans *should* be able to stop by kalymnos in my opinion. They’ve already paid a lot of money to bring their van all this way.

There *are* places you can stay and nobody will bother you, either van camping or free camping. Look across masouri ;)

If they had money … they can paid an acomodation … rather than live as homeless on the parking!

    Ok, on above.

Bruno; it is ok if people come in their VAN, why not?

NoClimb; thank you for the wel thought reply.

    Camper77; feel welcome

BUT……. be aware of the fact that the suffering economie on the greek island can make some people grumpy. They have the feeling that campers are cheap people.

But(2)… on Kalymnos is no camping place, there are no spaces where you can camp free. Its even not allowed by law.

Be free to come with your VAN but you are responsible for the mess you make.

Support our local business and mingle yourself with the locals.

I wish you a good time.

BTW; i am a kind of local

    @ camper77

don’t listen to bruno, the kalys will welcome you no matter if you sleep in a studio or in our van. As long as you support the local business there’s no problem.

    @ bruno

please stop posting bullshit! People considering to stay in kaly might think they are not welcome and spend their money somewhere else…

@campervan: if you are actualy on kaly … would not you the one that motivated the recent post of Carl Dawson?

“one of the campervans currently parked up within Masouri had driven to the middle of the village to do their washing-up using water from one of the little kiosks.”

… if you are the “CH camping car” parking in front of kokinidis studio on the parking … ask yourself for “bullshitt”!

why? anything wrong with that? If you are the spineless scooter driver yellig “fucking campervan” in a french accent you should consider to leave the island and stop insulting people that are acutally welcome there… soon you aren’t anymore!!!

“anything wrong with that?”… if you don’t see the problem … incredible!

PS: i’m … only insulting those … occupying all the way, backwards to return to their parking ! The street of Massouri is not only yours man !!!!

if you are correct … you can go to make half a turn, rather than a long walk back in a street with heavy traffic!
