Ourania is a massive cave near the village of Kamari. It is included in the 2019 Kalymnos guidebook as a sub-sector of Symplegades (p. 374). At the time, Ourania Cave featured only a dozen routes; our description said that Ourania is “…a huge cave with shade until late afternoon, worthwhile routes, and potential for new hard routes inside the cave and easier ones on the outer walls.”

Much of that potential has now been met thanks to Simon Montmory, who worked to add 18 new lines in 2020/21, more than doubling the number of routes at sub-sector Ourania. True to form, Simon’s routes are mostly hard. They are located primarily on the right side of the cave, and names are written at the base. Ourania Cave is in the shade until 15:00, which makes it excellent for summer climbing.
